1: It doesn't go into detail here, but as I recall Sigurd stayed with Jesse while he recovered from the experiments done after his capture. I don't remember exactly what the game said about that, if anything.
Note that the 'Ethos' was originally called simply 'the church' - I decided to stick with the term we're all familiar with. I think we all get the reference the minute we step into the sanctuary.
Wels are described as "死霊" (shiryou/shirei), which is defined as a spirit, or - my opinion only - something like a zombie. Again, nothing new, but I thought it was interesting in context. That's me, wacky about kanji! I wonder if it's the same kanji/term used for the shirei in Twelve Kingdoms?
This profile has an unmarked summary paragraph that kind of covers what we already know (what he is, what he does, etc. - basically repeating the timeline), so I'll do that last. :D It does say, however, that the 3000G Billy nearly sold himself for is the equivalent of three hundred thousand yen, which is about $2500 USD. (That can't be right, can it? Um...) I think he should have asked for more ala virgin price. :P Unless... no. No, we won't go there. What the hell was the Ethos doing, anyway?
It... also tells us that he has a bit of a complex, and always wears his hair short because he is so easily mistaken for a girl.
This speaks for itself, doesn't it? I'll try really hard not to laugh. XD There is more on this further down!
Raquel was also a Jugend military cadet, and Billy was born some time during her teens. (1) She also got to know Hyuga and Sigurd, who were in Jesiah's care at Jugend. She majored in Drive detox treatment, and after her official appointment, there were plans to assign Raquel to a position treating conditions related to gear failure and drive dependance. (3) When Sigurd was allowed to stay at the Blanche home, she attempted to treat his drug addiction. She had a strong artistic sense, so body painting and other such things interest her. (4)
Regarding Billy's middle name, Raquel thought the child would be a girl and decided on the name "Ashley." He was born male, but since he has a feminine appearance, she decided to use the "Lee" from the original name. (5)
After Jesiah disappeared, Bishop Stone sent Wels to attack the house. Raquel hid Billy and Prim in a space behind the wall clock and confronted the Wels with a gun, but they killed her. At the time Billy couldn't even see what happened, which torments him even now, and Primera, having seen her mother's death, cannot speak as a result of the shock. (6)
1: This doesn't appear to say she was in Jugend until he was born, but I kind of feel that's the implication. I hope she was in her late teens! Ahahah, I'm starting to understand why Stein was so pissed off.
2: the word is 'management,' but that would sound awkward and my brain isn't spitting out the word I want it to.
3: Let's be blunt! I know more or less what this sentence is saying, but I'm guessing at the meaning of "ギア同調失敗". I have no fucking clue what that's supposed to be. If you break it up, it's gear + alignment + failure, and I don't remember any terms close to that from the game. Admittedly my memory is vague regarding some parts of the script (and with no idea of what to look for a search is out), so if anybody knows better, please speak up. Gear alignment would seem to refer to Anima alignment, but that would be a bit strange at this point in the timeline. I guess you never know.
4: W-what?! I must be getting the subject wrong. XD; This is completely unrelated to the rest of the paragraph. 'Raquel did blah blah blah blah - oh, and by the way, her favorite color is pink! :D' What the hell. XD (Actually - I think the problem is with the 'ni suru,' so I'll go back and check that once I'm finished for the night.)
5: AND HE WEARS A BIG GREEN BOW pfffhahahahahahahaha-- I can't believe they say straight out that he's girly. Oh gods, reynardfox, I really missed you for this one. XD; But getting back to business... Ashley is actually called a pet name, but I wrote it as the name she'd decided on because that makes sense to me in context with the rest of the paragraph.
6: There's actually a bit of dialog describing how Billy felt about being hidden and not seeing what happened to his mother (I... think); I decided not to write it that way because it came out awkwardly.
This has to be the funniest section I've done so far.
After this section, Prim is all that's left. Stone has a short paragraph on the next page; I'll probably get to those tomorrow, although you never know. I'm not in the writing mood today.
Becoming an Etone --- The Orphanage
After three years of training as an acolyte Billy became an Etone, and then he went back to his home and opened an orphanage. He brought back orphans he found while working and raised them there.
This orphanage was Billy's personal project, without direct participation from the Ethos, so it was run entirely on his personal income. This does not mean the salary of an Etone is a generous one; he couldn't employ other people (1) to help. When Jesse returned his appearance was completely different, and Billy couldn't believe the man was his father. Prim quickly became attached and, tired of living such a hard life, Billy reluctantly allowed the stranger calling himself their father to enter their lives. (2)
1: "わけ" always trips me up a little, but I think I've got this right. >_> It was an occasional problem before my break from Japanese, and now it's hitting me all over the place.
2: I'm not sure how to interpret this. Maybe because it's three in the morning - that does tend to cut down on important things like reasoning capacity and vocabulary. It's the part right after mention of Prim; '楽ではない生活' ie: a hard life, seems to be negated by '決して,' which is where my problems start. Also not sure who to aim it at, as Billy is the primary subject, but it's talking about Prim. Don't ask me how I got this far with issues re: subjects. :P
Hmm, okay. Prim and Stone definitely wait until tomorrow. Along with corrections! The cat has decided it's time to take a break.
